Contract:  2-year fixed contract term

Job Position

The mission of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, is to contribute to the research fields of Food Technology, Food Chemistry, and Food Microbiology.

Research topics include: i) microplastics in food, ii) allergens in food, iii) food proteins, iv) insect-based foods, v) non-destructive analysis of foods for detecting food fraud and food authenticity, vi) life cycle analysis of food production processes, vii) antimicrobial strategies for fruit and vegetables, viii) food digestion.

The members of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology contribute to theoretical and practical courses at GUGC. The Centre also prepares students (BA/MA/PhD) for their careers in food science, both in academia, R&D, and food production.

 

The Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, has a vacancy for a Full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position, starting from May 1, 2021 (open to negotiation). It concerns a 2-year fixed contract position with a possible extension based on positive evaluation and considering the campus operational circumstances.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Sam Van Haute at the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology of the Ghent University Global campus in Songdo, Incheon. The candidate must have experience in obtaining Korean Government Funding and a good publication record.

 

 

Job Qualification (Profile of the Candidate)

  • You hold a PhD degree in Food Science.

  • Required knowledge: You have already conducted research within the field of food science.

  • Has educational experience; participation in extra-curriculum training, conferences, is recommended.

  • Has an independent research and strong self-learning ability; a creative and inquisitive attitude is a must.

  • Has strong didactic, communicative and management skills and a large interest in providing and supporting academic education.

Job Description

The position is part research (70%) and part teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses (including practical exercises) (30%). Teaching duties will be in one are more of the following courses (Modern Aspects of Food, Chemical Analytical Methods, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Technology of Non-Animal Products, Introduction to Biochemistry: Biomolecules ). The selected candidate will conduct research projects in the domain of food science, with research interest in food technology, food chemistry or food microbiology, resulting in publishing in high ranking scientific journals. The selected candidate will try to acquire funding in cooperation with the professors of the research centre. The position also gives the opportunity to collaborate with research groups at the Ghent University.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of obtaining research funding in Korea

  • Scientific background and knowledge

  • Expertise in practical aspects of food science

  • Educational experiences
