Department: Biomedical Research Centre 

Degree: PhD in Immunology or Molecular Biology (or closely related area). An additional degree in veterinary science will be a positive selection criteria.

Contract: 1-year contract term (Renewable)

Ghent University Global Campus, Korea (GUGC-K) has a vacancy for a position of Research & Teaching Assistant starting from January 1st 2021 (starting date) at the BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CENTER. It concerns a one-year full-time position in support of research activities of the research center, renewable subject to evaluation. A limited contribution to education (30% time occupation max.) will be required.

 

Profile of the candidate

  • You hold PhD degree with strong focus on Immunology and/or Molecular Biology.

  • You have goodknowledgeof Immunological techniques such as Flow cytometry, ELISA Western blot as well as immunological data analysis.

  • You have a good knowledge of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Animal Biology. Having proven knowledge of trypanosomosis research models will be a key criteria during the selection procedure.

  • You have strong didactic and communicative skills and a large interest in providing and supporting academic education.

  • You have proven record of teaching practical courses.

  • Having a veterinarian degree, and being able to take charge in the managing of a small animal facility (mouse IVCs) will be a positive selection criteria.

 

Job description

  • Assist the Research Centre with ongoing trypanosome vaccine research and related topics in the field of infectious disease immunology.

  • Assist the Research Center with teaching of wet-and dry-lab practical exercises of undergraduate courses (Molecular Biological, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Animal Biology).

  • Assist in preparation of the above mentioned practical courses, following instructions of the lecturer(s)-in-charge.

  • Assist with examinations, and other educational duties of the research center.

  • Assist the Research Center in daily tasks linked to various operational aspects of the laboratory.

  • Guide BSc students with practical work related to their dissertation, and guide them in the writing of their thesis manuscript.

  • Take charge of the practical daily operations of the mouse IVC facility, and keep track of documents required for daily administration of the infrastructure.

GUGC-K is the first campus of Ghent University outside Belgium. This brand new campus is located in Incheon, South- Korea. GUGC-K integrates educational and research facilities in a single building. Ghent University has the ambition to organize a first-rate, truly European education in Asia and to develop excellent research in the fields of Molecular biotechnology, Environmental and Food technology.

 

The terms of employment at GUGC-K are comparable to those at the campus in Ghent. Upon selection, the candidate needing a visa will apply for E-3 visa (Researcher visa) in Korea and free student accommodation and one round travel ticket between home country and GUGC-K are foreseen for international employee (E-3 visa holder). The international candidates who have other visa types (such as F-2, F-4 or F-6) in Korea also can apply for the position. The duration of the employment contract starts with one year, but if positively evaluated be extended and allow promising scientists to carry out research.
