Job Position

It concerns a 2-year fixed contract position with a possible extension based on positive evaluation and considering the campus operational circumstances.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Hoo Sun Chung at Plant Biotechnology Research Centre of the Ghent University Global campus in Korea. The candidate must have experience in obtaining Korean Government Funding and a good publication record.

 

Job Qualification (Profile of the Candidate)

  • You hold a PhD degree with strong focus on Plant Biology/Plant Biotechnology.

  • Required knowledge : You have a good knowledge on Plant Biology and/or Plant Biotechnology and/or Plant Genetics and Bioinformatics ;

  • Practical skills : Having practical laboratory experience with performing wet lab practical course in plant biology, plant physiology, plant molecular biology, plant biochemistry, plant molecular genetics, plant genomics, and plant bioinformatics is an advantage.

  • Analytical skills : You are strong in data interpretation and analysis;

  • Educational experience and participation in extra-curriculum training, conference is recommended;

  • You have independent research and strong self-learning abilities; a creative and inquisitive attitude is a must;

  • You have strong didactic, communicative and management skills and a large interest in providing and support in academic education;

  • You have an excellent academic track record, an excellent command of English (a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT test), and good academic writing and presentation skills.

Job Position

The mission of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, is to contribute to the research fields of Food Technology, Food Chemistry, and Food Microbiology.

Research topics include: i) microplastics in food, ii) allergens in food, iii) food proteins, iv) insect-based foods, v) non-destructive analysis of foods for detecting food fraud and food authenticity, vi) life cycle analysis of food production processes, vii) antimicrobial strategies for fruit and vegetables, viii) food digestion.

The members of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology contribute to theoretical and practical courses at GUGC. The Centre also prepares students (BA/MA/PhD) for their careers in food science, both in academia, R&D, and food production.

Job Position

The Center for Biotech Data Science (RC4) at Ghent University Global Campus pursues the development of new mathematical and computational approaches for extracting knowledge from huge sets of biotech data, paying attention to technical challenges such as (1) predictive analysis and visualization of biotech data; (2) complexity reduction and validation of data-driven models for biotechnological processes and systems; and (3) interpretability and robustness of data-driven models for biotechnological processes and systems.

The newly developed approaches have a wide variety of applications, ranging from cancer research and medical image diagnosis over drug development to plant phenotyping. Current research topics are varied and include, among others, adversariality in deep machine learning, 3-D phenotyping of rice plants, interpretability for biological sequence and biomedical image analysis, and stability and model reduction of biochemical reaction networks.

The B cell dysfunction in parasitic diseases and cancer is studied using various approaches in immuno-transcriptome analysis, including single cell RNA sequencing, as well as at the level of cellular Immunology.
